Glühwein, gingerbread, brightly lit stalls…we all love a Christmas market! In fact the UK now has some of Europe’s biggest in cities like Birmingham and Manchester, where they have become an institution. This year we worked with Wyndham Rewards, the loyalty programme of our client Wyndham Hotel Group, to send some bloggers from the UK and Germany on a trip around the countries where the traditional Christmas markets first began.

The Family Adventure Project is a family travel blog run by husband and wife team Stuart and Kirstie, documenting their travels all around the world with children Matthew, Cameron and Hannah. We asked them to take a fun and festive trip around Germany and Belgium, visiting four cities in as many days, to check out the Christmas markets in each one. They travelled between each city by train (which Kirstie informs me are far more reliable than our rail network…!), and stayed in four different Wyndham hotels including the Ramada, Super 8 and Wyndham Grand brands. You can check out their journey from Berlin to Leipzig to Munich to Salzburg here, and don’t miss Hannah’s search for the perfect bauble!

As Wyndham have a large market in Germany (we run their EMEA press office from London), we also worked with German mummy blogger lebeberlin on a similar trip. As Lisa lives in Berlin, we took her out of Germany and sent her to Amsterdam, followed by Antwerp, then Brussels and finally Liège. She too travelled by train throughout the Netherlands and Belgium with her husband Felix and their one-year-old son, Noah – staying in Wyndham hotels in each city along the way to get a taste for the different brands and how they cater to young families like theirs. For any German speakers among you, Lisa’s written a couple of posts about the trip which can be found here and here – enjoy!
