“Today, we’re introducing Instagram Stories, a new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.”

Instagram has officially announced the launch of it’s brand new feature – Stories. If the above sounds familiar, that’s because Snapchat also has stories, it’s primary and most popular feature. This ‘new’ feature allows users to share multiple photos and videos to a specific story throughout the day, which are displayed in a slideshow format. You can add text, draw on them, and be creative with the content.

Also, it seems they have also taken on board the popular ‘disappearing’ of content from Snapchat:

“With Instagram Stories, you don’t have to worry about overposting. Instead, you can share as much as you want throughout the day — with as much creativity as you want. You can bring your story to life in new ways with text and drawing tools. The photos and videos will disappear after 24 hours and won’t appear on your profile grid or in feed.”

In terms of how it will work:

Stories are located in a new bar featured at the top of your feed

You will see the profile pics of those you follow, and if they have a new story, the Instagram colouring will create a circle around the profile

You are not able to like or comment on them

You can send private messages to those who have created a story via Instagram direct message platform

This is a very interesting move from Instagram. And they do say that imitation is the greatest form of flattery – let’s hope Snapchat sees it that way.
