KPIs – ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

Per annum:

  • Strive to ensure a minimum of 128 hours are allocated to billable client time each month, with the remainder of your capacity focusing on new business
  • Be a key part in achieving a minimum client satisfaction score of 80%
  • Participate in at least two pitches (subject to portfolio and capacity) per annum
  • Meet with at least two different journalists, bloggers or influencers per month off-site
  • Demonstrate your team skills and approach and your integral role on all of your accounts
  • Make sure you meet deadlines for time sheets and expenses submissions every month
  • Ensure you comply with the Purchase Orders process at all times

JOB SPEC – ACCOUNT EXECUTIVE

Company Culture & Personal Skills

  • Understand the company vision and values
  • Support the Publicasity company culture wholeheartedly
  • Be an ambassador for Publicasity at all times – through what you say or write, how you speak, how you act, your general attitude, clothing etc. and in front of clients, other agencies, peers at training events, networking events, PRCA meetings and exhibitions
  • Have a ‘solution driven’ rather than ‘problem-driven’ mindset
  • Be an effective team player and have respect and confidence of others within Publicasity
  • Be able to nurture and manage a work experience / Team Assistant / Trainee Account Executive within the business working on your accounts

Media Relations

  • Attend paper meetings every morning and understand the importance of reading the news every day
  • Know the key titles for each of your accounts
  • Understand the difference between consumer, business and trade media
  • Ensure you keep media lists up to date with contacts and sell in notes
  • Commit to, and understand the importance of being on the phone to journalists for sell ins rather than hiding behind email
  • Be able to ‘sell’ and pitch in stories and ideas over the phone to media
  • Develop key media contacts and have effective relationships with journalists
  • Understand the importance of adapting sell-in techniques / angles for the same story depending on which title or journalist you’re pitching to
  • Apply different techniques of selling in– national news vs. consumer feature vs. trade NPD etc.
  • Understand the varying deadlines and processes for different types of media e.g. long lead, mid lead, short lead, online
  • Know the key blogs for each account, monitor posts regularly and know how to communicate effectively with them
  • Make sure you are delivering work which you are able to put forward for coverage of the month at least four times per year

Writing Skills

  • Write well, in a clear, organised, engaging and creative way – both press releases, feature copy and reports
  • Understand different writing styles and techniques for different media and stories
  • Ensure that all written work is free of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors before passing to more senior team members for feedback

Client Relationships

  • Pick up the phone to clients at least twice a week and don’t hide behind email
  • Demonstrate your knowledge of and enthusiasm for your clients’ business
  • Be able to present coverage and press office updates confidently in client meetings

Campaign Management

  • Read industry reports as instructed by your Account Manager both within the PR industry and those relevant to client industries
  • Ensure client emails are responded to within good time
  • Know where client proposals and budgets are saved on the system
  • Be aware of campaign KPIs, targets and objectives
  • Ensure good coverage results are highlighted to clients ASAP
  • Come to team meetings with full updates on progress with your actions, coverage achieved in the last week and coverage expected
  • Uphold quality standards at all times, including scanning, coverage reports and all written materials

Digital

  • Know and understand the digital services on offer at Publicasity
  • Monitor / know digital trends affecting your clients and their competitors on an ongoing basis Be able to monitor social presences for your clients

Campaign Measurement and Evaluation

  • Support Account Managers in putting review documents together
  • Understand Publicasity’s ‘Outcomes Matter’ approach to campaign measurement over and above AVE / PRV / ROI
  • Be able to work out ROI / AVE / PRV where clients still use this method

Financial

  • Understand the importance of, and implement the procedure of, seeking client approval of all costs and sign-off, prior to Publicasity raising POs for suppliers
  • Negotiate better deals with suppliers, ensuring three competitor quotes are sourced for all activity
  • Make sure you meet deadlines for time sheets, expenses and credit card submissions every month

New business

  • Proactively put yourself forward for appropriate new biz opportunities that match your experience and desires
  • Be able to conduct thorough and relevant research for pitches
